San Antonio-based artists Leslie Raymond and Jason Jay Stevens form the collaborative team known as Potter-Belmar Labs. Established in 1999, their performance, video, and installation works often involve audience participation; as co-conspirators, the audience often helps determine the direction of many of the performances. For their 2009 video installation San Antonio Casts a Spell, the duo presented eight videos featuring South Texas hexes in the window front of The LAB Gallery (for installation+performance art) in New York City. By calling a toll-free number, passersby and gallery visitors were able to listen to instructions for each incantation-relating to getting good sleep, finding lost items, increasing the size of a space, and more-while viewing videos of those spells being conjured.
