Artpace is pleased to announce the Summer 2017 International Artist-in-Residence exhibition opening featuring artists Christie Blizard (San Antonio, TX), Rolando López (Aguascalientes, MX), and Kang Seung Lee (Los Angeles, CA). The opening reception will be held on Thursday, July 13 from 6 – 9 p.m. with talks between the artists and curator, Yoshua Okón, beginning at 7 p.m. Admission to Artpace is free and open to the public.

Christie Blizard has exhibited widely, working in a variety of media that merge painting, poetry, and performance. Recent venues include the McNay Art Museum, (San Antonio, TX); The Epitome Institute, (San Antonio, TX); the School of Visual Arts, (New York, NY); The Painting Center; (New York, NY); 1708 Gallery, (Richmond, VA); Women & Their Work, (Austin, TX); Lawndale Art Center, (Houston, TX); and NOMA Gallery, (San Francisco, CA).

Rolando López’s work aspires to be a device that, from the point of view of the oppressed, generates relevant questions about the meaning of modernity and capitalism. He is interested in the relationships that occur between the economic field and the culture, particularly in the socio-cultural strategies that have developed throughout history for the development of what we call art.

Kang Seung Lee is a multidisciplinary artist who was born in South Korea and now lives and works in Los Angeles. Kang has had solo exhibitions at Commonwealth and Council (Los Angeles, CA); Pitzer College Art Galleries (Claremont, CA); Los Angeles Contemporary Archive (Los Angeles, CA); Centro Cultural Border (Mexico City); and group exhibitions at LAXART (Los Angeles, CA); Weatherspoon Art Museum at UNCG (NC); SOMArts (San Francisco, CA); Raymond Gallery at Art Center College of Design (Pasadena, CA), among many others.

Artpace is a non-profit contemporary art residency organization in downtown San Antonio. Artpace supports the creative process and engages audiences with the most innovative art and artists from around the world.
