Online Resources

Artpace offers a number of resources for Educators, Families, Students, and Volunteers. Educators will find Artpace3 touring information, a menu of Site Visit presentations, and Teacher Workshop announcements. Families can find information regarding Family Day, Chalk It Up, and Summer Camps. Students can check out our internship opportunities. And anyone looking to help support our mission through volunteering can find detailed information.

Whether your students love to make art, learn about history, connect with science and math, or read books, Artpace3 provides a cross-disciplinary investigation of artistic expression. This is how it works: First, an introductory Site Visit from a Guest Art Speaker—the teacher chooses a lesson/activity to begin the Artpace3 experience, which is carried out by one of our professional Associate Educators. Second, tour Artpace through an interactive exploration and a hands-on artistic response. Third, a follow-up Site Visit—the teacher chooses another Associate Educator-led Site Visit from our menu of presentations. This program is FREE and partial bus reimbursements are available.

Teacher Workshops

Teachers who wish to incorporate contemporary art and innovative curricular approaches into the classroom can earn four state-certified Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credits for these thematic Saturday in-services held each spring and fall.

Camps

Artpace summer camps puts your child in direct contact with the most knowledgeable and inspiring artist educators. With artist-led activities, campers work through creative processes and learn new art-making techniques while having fun in the heart of downtown San Antonio. Our youth camps provide exciting opportunities for students ages 6 through 12 years old.

Teen Artist Workshops

Each semester Artpace offers an afternoon of art-making just for middle school and high school students. Teens work with a local artist to explore the current exhibitions and then create a work of art that allows them to experiment with new materials, styles, and techniques.

Family Day

Held annually in the spring, Artpace’s Family Day is a fun, interactive event devoted to helping families learn and create together. Extending the organization’s Art Elements educational programming, participants enjoy a free, art-filled afternoon with a variety of hands-on creative projects led by professional artists and educators.

Chalk It Up

Held annually on the second Saturday of October, Chalk It Up is a free, family-friendly event celebrating our city’s creative spirit. San Antonio’s premiere artists turn sidewalks into colorful works of art; the community is invited to help complete a super-sized street mural; and a variety of art-filled activities are offered in the Kidzones—spaces where imaginations soar. Save the date for our next Chalk It Up, held on October 13, 2012.

Internships

Artpace seeks college and university students to participate in internships for academic credit. Spring, summer, and fall internships are unpaid and run for eight weeks with a minimum commitment of 10 hours per week during office hours (Tuesday-Thursday, 8-6pm, and Friday, 8-5pm).
