On IAIR microCinema*
In correlation to the IAIR projects of Jamal Cyrus, Corey McCorkle, and Monika Sosnowska, Artpace San Antonio presents a screening in collaboration with Microcinema International and Aurora Picture Show, featuring themes of reconstruction.
About the Film Shorts
Cut up, remix, mashup. This is not a cooking show; it's video art, reconstructed. With the ease and accessibility of digital media and tools, contemporary video artists have endless content at their disposal. Following a long history of artists appropriating found materials, this selection of short films is made up of collages from popular culture, reinterpreted as a means of social, political, and personal commentary. The video artists reconstruct our ideas of what we know from well-known films such as the Sound of Music, as well as from old family footage, television commercials, and news programs, transforming them into humorous, thoughtful, and multi-layered productions.

Opening Reception & Walk-through: Matthew Ronay: Between the Worlds
Join us for the debut of the 10.3 Hudson (Show)Room exhibition. New York-based artist Matthew Ronay has created a "primordial forest," staging an elaborate installation of organic elements rendered in contrasting tones of darkness and brightness. The entirety of the gallery space will be transformed by the artist's touch, which, according to Ronay, will allow for the transference of his energy. The installation manifests a metaphysical, sacred experience reflected in the shamanistic objects he has assembled. Members-only rooftop party 6-8:30pm; gallery walk-through at 7pm. On view through January 2, 2011.
