SEEKING TEXAS ARTISTS: ARTPACE ANNOUNCES OPEN CALL FOR THE 2008 INTERNATIONAL ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE PROGRAM

SAN ANTONIO, TX – In keeping with its commitment to fostering international dialogue for contemporary art within Texas, Artpace San Antonio is pleased to announce an open call for submissions by Texas artists for consideration in the 2008 International Artist-in-Residence program.

Since its opening in 1995, Artpace has invited more than one hundred and twenty artists at various stages in their careers to participate in the International Artist-in-Residence program, which welcomes three artists? from Texas, one from elsewhere in the United States, and one from abroad?live and work in San Antonio for two months. Artpace?goal for the residency program is to give artists a space in which to imagine new ways to work. The cutting-edge artworks produced at Artpace are as likely to employ video, film, found objects, performance, and light, as they are paint, stone, or metal.

A residency at Artpace includes travel expenses, a weekly living stipend, a materials budget, an apartment, and studio/exhibition space. Resident artists have access to fully equipped wood, metal, and video editing work stations, as well as technical and administrative support. The residency is followed by a two-month exhibition of the project created, which is fully documented and accompanied by a color publication.

This open call results in a shortlist of Texas artists whose work displays the innovation that Artpace cultivates. This list and related portfolios are shared with Artpace?three guest curators, who review materials and may conduct studio visits with those artists. Each guest curator invites a single Texas artist to participate in Artpace?2008 residencies.

Application and guidelines are available at Artpace and online. Submissions are due 5:00 PM, September 1, 2006. For additional information, please contact Artpace by phone 210.212.4900 x 123, fax 210.212.4990, or email info@artpace.org.
