Who
Okwui Enwezor, a pioneer in the field of art history and criticism, is an independent curator, writer, and educator. A native of Kalaba, Nigeria, Enwezor immigrated to America in1983 to pursue a career as a poet. He soon shifted his focus to critical writing, addressing themes found in contemporary African art, a topic that had been largely neglected. Since then, Enwezor has had a dominant presence in both curatorial and academic spheres. Enwezor was the Artistic Director of Documenta 11, Kassel, Germany (1998-2002) and the 2nd Johannesburg Biennale, South Africa (1997). He has curated such acclaimed exhibitions as The Short Century and Mirror?Edge.
