Three times annually Artpace collaborates with literary arts center Gemini Ink to feature a visual artist and a wordsmith worth watching-either emerging talents, those new to the community, or established artists with new bodies of work. During San Antonio's Contemporary Art Month on July 24, 2008, video artist Leslie Raymond will team up with writer/artist Lyle D. Rosdahl for a discussion of their work and the influence of science on their respective practices.
Nature, technology, and social systems are prevalent themes in Leslie Raymond's video art, which she will screen during the discussion. Raymond has been working with the moving image for over 20 years, progressing from early work in 8mm and 16mm film to her current work in digital video.
Technology and structure are also important to writer and artist Lyle D. Rosdahl. Rosdahl creates stories that layer information and meaning, drawing inspiration from news media, science journals, and blogs, among other sources. In conjunction with Raymond's video work, Rosdahl will read excerpts from his short story Chemical Names.
2 to Watch is made possible in part by the City of San Antonio's Office of Cultural Affairs and The Brown Foundation, Inc., with additional support from Texas Commission on the Arts.
