ArtPace unveils new web site with e-archives of artists' projects
A New Web Site
After a year of development, ArtPace is pleased to announce the launch of our web site,
www.artpace.org . The site contains extensive information on ArtPace's International
Artist-in-Residence Program, participating artists, public programs and the history and
context of ArtPace. "ArtPace's web site will provide another way to experience the
excitement of our unique organization," said Founder and Trustee Linda Pace. "Today's
technology makes it possible for us to expand our audiences beyond traditional
boundaries."
E-Archives and Event Information
A central component of the web site is the e-archives, an extensive database of artists
who have participated in our International Artist-in-Residence Program and our Hudson
(Show)Room Exhibitions. The e-archives include documentation of ArtPace installations,
biographical information on the artists and critical essays. We expect this resource to be a
record of ArtPace's extensive activities, serving as a research tool for curators, students,
artists and art enthusiasts.
The calendar section details the range of social and educational programs that take
place at ArtPace, including opening dates, lectures, potluck dinners, brown-bag lunches
and yoga classes. For visitors unfamiliar with San Antonio, a virtual tour is provided with
links to other cultural organizations.
Incite Studio
The site was designed by Incite Studio, an Austin-based firm that specializes in database-
heavy e-commerce solutions. "Working with ArtPace was a web designer's dream," said
Jessica Phillips, Creative Director of Incite Studio. "Not only did they provide us with
excellent content and insightful feedback, they offered us the freedom to take full
advantage of the creative potential of the web while still producing an intuitive,
information-rich experience.'
Related Programming
In conjunction with the launch of ArtPace's web site, Wolfgang Staehle, the founder of
The Thing (www.thing.net), a web site focused on contemporary art and theory, will visit
San Antonio to lecture on the development of the Internet as a site for cultural
production. The lecture will take place at ArtPace on July 22, 1999 at 6:30 PM.
