The San Antonio River Foundation has commissioned local artists to create one-of-a-kind art benches to be placed along the San Antonio River in order to create unique seating areas and a series of landmarks along the Mission Reach.
Drawing on elements of Latino culture in south Texas, Vincent Valdez’s two art benches reference custom-car design with sleek, automotive pinstriping which wrap around the entire seat portion of the bench. The striping pattern is also intended to reference traditional serapes and gives a sense of floating on the colorful Mexican blanket.
The benches will be installed north of the Mitchell Street bridge, under the shade structure on the west bank of the San Antonio River. Stay tuned for additional installation details as the project continues!
Be sure to join us for the opening of Vincent’s Artpace exhibition Thursday, May 8th, from 6-9pm.
