TeamWorks Across San Antonio 2026

For over 30 years, Artpace has enriched and enlivened San Antonio by engaging our community with contemporary art and global art practices. Join us and create your own chalk mural with TeamWorks Across San Antonio and celebrate with us at Artpace DreamLab.
This year, Artpace San Antonio invites teams to participate in TeamWorks 2026 Across San Antonio  and work collaboratively to complete original chalk murals in your own neighborhoods and communities, representative of the theme:

TeamWorks is open to any school or community group serving San Antonio-area residents. Local businesses, nonprofits, and community members are encouraged to participate as community groups.
TeamWorks Across San Antonio brings art into your communities by creating chalk murals on your home campuses and offering everyone across San Antonio and surrounding areas the opportunity to participate in this creative and collaborative art competition. All participants are invited to explore the work of fellow local artists at Artpace during Artpace’s DreamLab on Saturday, November 7, where TeamWorks finalists will be recognized at an awards ceremony.
Artpace TeamWorks and DreamLab celebrate community and creativity. We hope you will join us for both!

Community is the people’s ability to bond despite differences and every community has heart and roots and we have to watch and care for each other. Community brings people together and each tile represents the diversity of the community, some made by our school community passers by using soft pastel and inviting them to draw a pattern or what they could contribute, much like how a community thrives, by contributions.

At the center of our chalk mural is the heart of our community which represents compassion and passion to care for others with the eye symbolizing embracing different perspectives. The nopales surround the heart putting down roots in the community.

The sketch design was done by student Jade Brock, combining ideas and preliminary sketches by Art Club members.  The original design was going to be a garden with flowers and eyes inside.  To begin, we tape measured and gridded the sidewalk and while measuring we had extra space so we decided to split it and create a border and fill it with tile patterns.  The chalk mural was mostly made using crayola and prang stick chalk and soft pastel sticks blending with our hands and the sunset was made by grinding some chalk mixed with water and applied by a sponge brush.  We learned to work as a community to coordinate and work together at different times of the day to bring the work to completion since it was on site and the only times to work were mostly before or after school.
