Artpace is excited to announce the next Art Talks featuring guest curator Yoshua Okón. This event will be held Tuesday, June 28 from 6 to 8pm. Art Talks is free and open to the public with refreshments and fare provided.

Yoshua Okón (b. 1970, Mexico City) is an artist, curator, and co-founder of SOMA, a non-accredited, independent art school, established in 2009. SOMA is a non-profit organization conceived to nurture discussion and exchange in the field of contemporary art and education in Mexico City. Okón also co-founded La Panadería, a contemporary art space and residency housed in a defunct bakery in Colonia Condesa. La Panadería operated from 1994-2002 and became a reference point for the creative community of Mexico City due to its alternative vocation.

Okón received an MFA from UCLA in 2002 with a Fulbright scholarship. His work is included in the collections of Tate Modern, Hammer Museum, LACMA, Colección Jumex and MUAC, among others. Okón will select Artpace’s Summer 2017 International Artists-in-Residence.

Art Talks brings together the most innovative artists and curators from around the world with San Antonio audiences to provided an intimate space for open conversation about the creative process and contemporary art.
