About the artist:
Marta Francine is a textile artist who currently works and resides in San Antonio and Austin, TX. She received her BFA in Visual Arts and Communication from Universidad Veritas in San José, Costa Rica, where she was born and raised prior to relocating to Texas. Her mother is a professional seamstress and fiber artist whom she credits for inheriting the love for this art form. Marta currently explores ways to break away from the repetitive aspect of traditional macramé knotting, in turn developing her own patterns and textile construction. Her approach to this art form stems from her passion for nature, texture, and color; as well as a deep curiosity about organic fiber movement and soft sculpture techniques.
