Artpace San Antonio is pleased to announce San Antonio native Rigoberto Luna as the Fall 2026 International Artist-in-Residence Guest Curator. Luna has a long-standing relationship with Artpace and a deep connection to San Antonio’s art community. Beginning this December, he will travel across Texas to visit artists in their studios and select one Texas-based artist who will join the national and international artists he chooses for Artpace’s renowned Fall 2026 residency program.
During this time, Luna will also present a Curator Talk at Artpace, offering insights into his career, curatorial practice, and early vision for the Fall 2026 residency. The talk is scheduled for December 11, 2025, from 6-8PM.
Luna, a cultural producer born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, is the co-founder of Presa House Gallery, an artist-run space established in 2016 dedicated to presenting innovative exhibitions by emerging and mid-career artists, with a curatorial emphasis on Latinx and underrepresented communities across Texas and the broader Southwest.
As the Cohort 06 Curatorial Fellow at NXTHVN, Luna opened All At Once: Reflected Through Glass in New Haven, Connecticut, in March 2025, followed by The Things Left Unsaid at James Cohan Gallery in New York City in May. Following the completion of his fellowship in July, he guest-curated Ya Hecho: Readymade in the Borderlands at the Tucson Museum of Art. He recently curated Soy de Tejas: A Statewide Survey of Latinx Art, a landmark exhibition that debuted at Centro de Artes in San Antonio and opened at The Cheech Marin Center for Chicano Art & Culture in October 2025.
In 2021, Luna served as Curatorial Assistant and Exhibitions Coordinator for the Texas Biennial, a multi-venue exhibition that featured Artpace as a presenting host venue. His past curatorial projects include exhibitions at ArtYard (Frenchtown, New Jersey), Blaffer Art Museum (Houston), and Chicano Park Museum and Cultural Center (San Diego, California). Forthcoming, Luna will serve as a curatorial fellow at the 2026 Winter Pentaculum at Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.
Regarding being chosen as the Fall 2026 Guest Curator, Luna stated, “I never imagined I would have the honor of curating Artpace’s International Artist-in-Residence program. As a native of San Antonio, I know firsthand that what makes this residency so special is how it brings together artists, curators, local organizations, and our city’s creative community in such a unique and accessible way. It’s a space where international voices connect with local talent, where cultural exchange and collaboration drive discovery, and allow for the development of lasting relationships through shared experimentation. Being a part of Artpace’s vast history and helping carry that spirit forward is an incredible privilege.”
