On June 28, 2016, Artpace hosted an Art Talk with Yoshua Okón, artist and curator. Okón was the Guest Curator for the Summer 2017 International Artist-in-Residence program.
Okón also founded SOMA, a non-profit organization conceived to nurture discussion and exchange in the field of contemporary art and education in Mexico City. Okón also co-founded La Panadería, a contemporary art space and residency housed in a defunct bakery in Colonia Condesa. La Panadería operated from 1994-2002 and became a reference point for the creative community of Mexico City due to its alternative vocation.
Okón received an MFA from UCLA in 2002 with a Fulbright scholarship. His work is included in the collections of Tate Modern, Hammer Museum, LACMA, Colección Jumex and MUAC, among others. Okón will select Artpace’s Summer 2017 International Artists-in-Residence.
