Rick Liberto passionately believes in Artpace’s mission and was a dear friend of Linda Pace, whom he credits for his fervent collecting, especially of San Antonio artists. He is in his sixteenth year of service on the Artpace Board of Directors and is Co-Chair of Artpace’s artist Resident Endowment Campaign. From co-chairing the Board of Directors to co-chairing multiple Happenings to his leadership on Artpace’s Building and Grounds Committee—Rick devotes his time, talent, and resources to ensuring Artpace continues to thrive.
We are delighted to celebrate Rick’s extraordinary generosity and the profound impact he has had and continues to have on our organization and the San Antonio arts community.
Teresita Fernández’s work is characterized by an interest in self-reflection and conceptual wayfinding. Her immersive, monumental works are inspired by a rethinking of landscape and place. Fernández’s practice unravels the intimacies between matter, places, and human beings–poetically evoking the landscape while also exposing the loaded historical ties to colonization and the inherent violence embedded in how we imagine and define locations.
A 2005 MacArthur Foundation Fellow, she was appointed by President Obama as the first Latina to serve on the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts. Fernández is the recipient of numerous, prestigious awards, and her works have been exhibited internationally.
Teresita was a Winter 1998 Artpace Artist-in-Residence. She served on the Artpace Board of Directors (2008-2014) and co-chaired Artpace’s Fifteenth Anniversary Happening with Rick Liberto in 2010. We are thrilled to welcome Teresita back to San Antonio to celebrate her history with Artpace, her remarkable career, and her continuing impact on contemporary art and cultural dialogues.
