Artpace Internships

Gain first-hand experience in arts development and mentorship with Artpace staff across departments.

Interns apply their creativity, critical thinking skills and enthusiasm to a wide range of projects under the mentorship of Artpace Professionals. Artpace strives to offer interns an experience that nurtures a passion for careers in the arts as well as inspiration to incorporate creativity into any career path they choose.

Studio Interns function as studio assistants to the Studio and Building manager, and to artists-in-residence. 

Duties include:

  • Assisting the resident artists in the production of new projects
  • Working with technical and studio staff to plan, install, and de-install shows
  • Packing and preparing artwork for transport
  • Preparing for exhibitions, opening receptions, and other events.
  • Assisting with various aspects of building/ operations
International Artist-in-Residence Timelines:

Spring: Late January to Mid-March

Fall: Late July to Mid-September

 

Archive & Exhibitions Interns significantly support Artpace’s mission by assisting with archival logistics and the organization of the Artpace Archives Research Library. Maintaining a finite vision for the archive inventory helps sustain Artpace and its research value. A well-developed resource library is a service of the Artpace facilities and programs. The reliable organization and arrangement of historical records reveal much about Artpace’s forces, activities, and functions.    

Archives & Exhibitions Interns can expect to: 

  • Assist the Residencies and Exhibitions Manager in curatorial research and writing for public-facing texts 
  • Assist the Residencies and Exhibitions Manager in everyday gallery and exhibition management 
  • Document and collect exhibit checklist information  
  • Create gallery signage and wall labels  
  • Work with staff in documenting Artpace events 
  • Assist in programming and/or visitor relations duties 
  • Record and transcribe interviews with the International Artists-in-Residence 
  • Organize and catalog reading materials for the Artpace Archives Research Library (AARL)  
  • Update Artpace Dewey System and LibraryThing finding aid 
  • Scan and record ephemera collection for Artpace Archives Research Library  
  • Catalog archival documents in accordance with the Artpace Record Retention Policy

Artpace Development Interns significantly support the mission of Artpace by assisting in event logistics and the organization of individual and corporate donors and sponsorships to execute successful fundraising opportunities.

Development Interns can expect to:

  • Conduct prospective donor research; assist in donor affairs & database management
  • Help plan fundraising events and logistics
  • Recruiting and assigning duties to corporate and individual volunteers
  • Helping in the development and creation of materials for development events
  • Support membership drive initiatives
  • Research downtown community partners and businesses
  • Assist in visitor relations duties

Artpace Communications Interns significantly support the mission of Artpace by assisting the Communications Manager in tasks related to the Artpace exhibitions and International Artist-in-Residence programs.

Communications Interns can expect to:

  • Create innovative ideas to highlight current and past programs
  • Create and implement creative and engaging social media outreach projects and strategies
  • Write, edit, and create content for social media, digital, and print marketing
  • Assist with event photography and short reel videography

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with Canva, Office Suite, website platforms, and Adobe Creative Suite
  • Passionate about contemporary art

Artpace Education Interns significantly support Artpace and its’ visitors by helping to create more accessible avenues for visitors to enjoy the artwork. The Education intern will work directly with the Education Programs Manager and other staff, assisting with Artpace programming and resource development for current and past Artpace exhibitions.

Education Interns can expect to:

  • Create resources for visitors both in-person and online highlighting exhibitions past and present 
  • Assist in pre-existing programs and content that highlight exhibitions
  • Budget, collect and organize materials for programming 
  • Collect data and information on performance indicators for various programs 
  • Facilitate logistics for various programs

What is the application deadline?
Artpace internships are offered on a rolling deadline, but we recommend applying before the soft deadline.  
Soft deadlines: 
Spring: December 1
Summer: April 1
Fall: July 1
Each internship functions differently dependent on project needs, department timing and tasks and residency schedule. Read all information carefully to determine if the internship offered is the right fit for you.
Due to Artpace’s nonprofit status, internships are unpaid unless otherwise stated for special programs. 
However, Artpace does offer course credit based on your institution’s policies and practices. 
Internships are offered for credit dependent on your institution’s credit requirements. 
While internship hours are flexible, we recommend 10 hours per week with two five-hour days. 
Artpace requires availability of at least 3 hours at a time in order to effectiely start and finish tasks during the internship. 
Individuals doing their internship for course credit are responsible for meeting their institution’s required hours.
