Inessa Bicknell, Membership and Development Associate, writes about the perks of being a PACEsetter and the latest behind-the-scenes private collection tour conducted by Alice Carrington Foultz.
On Thursday, June 24, Alice Carrington Foultz and Eric Foultz generously hosted a tour of their home and personal art collection for the Artpace PACEsetters. Alice has curated art collections for corporate clients such as the Holt Companies of Texas and the San Antonio Spurs; major law firms including Jackson Walker; Akin, Gump, Hauer & Strauss; Kaufman Broad homebuilders; and the SBC Center. During the exclusive and intimate tour, she discussed what inspired her passion for art. She emphasized that she only ever buys things that she likes personally, not because it comes from a major auction house. Alice shared an anecdote about purchasing a Vincent Valdez (currently on view in Artpace’s Hudson (Show)Room through August 31) painting for $300 out of a garage. Now his paintings that are 20 x 24 inches are selling for over thousands. Most important, Alice advised the PACEsetters to trust their own eye and train themselves by visiting museums, seeing what museums have acquired, and getting into the habit of recognizing quality work.
