Associate Educator Ernesto Olivo emphasizes the importance of community outreach and Artpace Chalk It Up.
Artpace Chalk It Up 2014 is right around the corner! And it is important to me as an Associate Educator to make sure we get the word out to students and their families about this great free and family-friendly event. For the next two weeks I will be visiting various schools in the East Side of San Antonio to do outreach and to invite students to attend Artpace Chalk It Up on Saturday, October 11 from 10am-4pm. Today, I visited Poe Middle School, and had the chance to work with the Martinez St. Women’s Center’s Girl Zone students on a chalk art demo. The students take pride on their school mascot, the tiger, so we created a colorful chalk art piece in their courtyard.
Family-friendly events are so important to our communities! They bring all kinds of people together in one place to create a positive and collaborative environment. Artpace Chalk It Up provides a creative, unique, and one-of-a-kind art experience in the heart of our city of San Antonio. Everyone should have an opportunity to experience this event and everything that it has to offer-chalk art, music, local artists, and the group collaborations from schools and community organizations. At Artpace we think it is important for us to build and bridge communities, and I take pride in being able to facilitate that goal through my role as an Associate Educator.
