Recently Artpace hosted a free Teen Workshop on creating large-scale installation art with current Fall 2013 Window Works artist Julia Barbosa Landois. Students were able to visit Julia’s current exhibition Buried, Not Dead and speak with her about the process for creating the installation. After Julia gave a presentation of some of her past works students were tasked with sketching their own ideas for what they might create if given the space for an installation.

After finalizing their sketches, they created architectural scale models of what their installation would look like in a space similar to the Artpace Window Works exhibition.

Julia was able to work one on one with teen participants to help guide them in their process, from initial ideas to the final creation.

Once their maquettes were complete Julia asked that each teen participant walk around the room to check out their peers’ work. Each person shared their unique inspirations and ideas, making for great conversations.

Be sure to mark your calendar for our next FREE Spring Teen Workshop with an Artpace artist (to be announced) happening Sunday, February 9, from 1-4:00 p.m. Reserve your spot by contacting tbrowning@artpace.org.
